When you visit a gas station in Hudson, you have plenty of options at the pump. So, what type of gas does my car take? Is premium better than regular? The service experts at Sawyer Chevrolet, Inc. are here to walk you through the differences, so you can fuel up with confidence!
Gasoline is rated with an “octane level”. This is indicated next to the pump handle. Regular gas is usually around 87 for engines with a standard compression ratio, while premium is around 91 for engines with a higher compression ratio. The octane level of the fuel lets drivers know how heat-resistant the fuel is. Why is this important? Luxury and performance cars use turbocharged and supercharged engines, which operate at higher temperatures than a standard engine. This can cause the regular fuel to ignite early – known as “engine knocking” or “pre-ignition”. Premium fuel prevents these issues and allows for smoother travels throughout Saugerties and Windham.
